Prof. Indrapal Singh specializes in organic synthesis, with a concentrated focus on synthetic carbohydrate chemistry. His academic journey began with a bachelor's degree from Nowrosjee Wadia College and advanced through master's and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Chemistry, University of Pune, under the supervision of Professor N S Narasimhan. He gained practical experience as a synthetic organic chemist at Hoechst Research Centre, Mumbai, and held a brief position at the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. His post-doctoral work included research on radical-mediated reactions at the University of California, Santa Cruz, USA, followed by an enriching tenure as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the University of Konstanz, Germany, where he specialized in synthetic carbohydrate chemistry with Professor Richard R. Schmidt. Joining the Department of Chemistry at IIT Madras in 1995 as an Assistant Professor, he achieved the rank of full Professor in 2006 and further contributed to the institution by serving as the Head of the Department from 2015 to 2018.
